Each year Amelia Earhart Memorial Scholarships are awarded to qualified members for five different scholarship types, including two specialized scholarships: an Emergency Maneuver Training Scholarship and an International Scholarship for pilots in developing countries. In addition, the Amelia Earhart Memorial Scholarship Fund (AEMSF) provides Research Scholarship Grants and, for Student Pilot members, the First Wings Awards. 99s members and other individuals have donated to the Fund through their estate bequests, individual gifts, and the Perpetual Scholarship program.
Since 1941, the AEMSF has awarded over 1300 scholarships plus more than 430 awards to student pilots working toward their first certificate. The amount awarded for these scholarships, including Research Scholar Grants and Fly Now/First Wings Awards exceeds $13 Million. The AEMSF's investment account is currently valued at over $7.5 Million.
Applicants must be Student Pilot Members for three months prior to the First Wings submission deadline and have logged five hours flight time within the preceding six months. Award is up to $6,000 for specific milestones as they are achieved. Instructions and application are available in the Members Only area. Click on Join 99s to become a member.
There are five separate Amelia Earhart Memorial Scholarship applications in order to accommodate the most common types of requests. The applicant should use the application form most appropriate to her circumstances and goal.

Amelia Earhart Memorial Scholarship winners have served at every level of The 99s, as Chapter Chairmen, Section Governors, International Presidents, and AEMSF Scholarship Chairmen and Trustees.

Amelia Earhart was a Charter Member and the first President of The Ninety-Nines. She was the first woman pilot to fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean and flew to new horizons in 1937 during an attempt to fly around the world. The Ninety-Nines established the Amelia Earhart Memorial Scholarship Fund in 1940 to honor her memory and perpetuate her ideals and love of flying. From a single scholarship of $125 in 1941, the annual Amelia Earhart Memorial Scholarship Fund has grown to help over 750 women from around the world to advance and succeed in aviation and aerospace.
The Amelia Earhart Memorial Scholarship Fund is a unique entity, separate from The Ninety-Nines, Inc. Managed through a charter by Trustees who are 99s members, the Fund's financial statements are included in The Ninety-Nines' annual financial statements, available from 99s Headquarters upon request.
